Jesse John Michalski
Based in New Jersey, Jesse is an artist whose work is produced primarily through the medium of photography. As a certified NJ Art Educator, he understands and communicates the importance of artistic processes and making meaning from experiences, ideals he lives by.
Jesse’s interest in capturing scenes of western landscapes and subjects derives from his family history, tracing to the valleys of rural California, plains of Wyoming, the Great Salt Lake of Utah, and the corn fields of Nebraska. Yellowed pages of an old family photo album tell of a life on the range with Jesse’s Grandfather, John Michalski, who was a champion calf roper and Army veteran. These images inspire Jesse John to explore, retracing the roots of a family legacy while creating one of his own.
Jesse’s photographic body of work is a combination of music, landscape, rodeo, and portraiture documentation. While the music genres may vary and the landscapes may change, he believes there is a relationship between it all. This search for reason, between humanity and the landscapes that locate us, is what keeps Jesse John behind the camera and on the road.
